SLD/Dyslexia Supports

At ASL we use Multisensory learning (MSL) as it's a highly effective approach for supporting individuals with dyslexia and other language based diagnoses. MSL integrates visual, auditory, tactile (touch), and kinesthetic (movement) elements to enhance learning and retention. This method helps dyslexic learners engage multiple senses, making it easier to process and recall information.

Key aspects of multisensory learning for dyslexia include:

  • Visual techniques (e.g., idea mapping, color-coded text)
  • Auditory techniques (e.g., listening to audiobooks, using rhymes)
  • Tactile techniques (e.g., tracing letters in sand or using textured materials)
  • Kinesthetic techniques (e.g., learning through movement, acting out concepts)

This approach is widely recognised in dyslexia therapy and education, as it allows learners to discover their preferred learning style while reinforcing concepts through multiple sensory pathways.

Current programs we use are 'Learnersaurus'; Math's Australia; Secret Stories and Multisensory Language Education (MSL).

Each activity is designed to nurture understanding, confidence, and motivation, helping participants turn everyday challenges into opportunities for growth. With personalised learning pathways and accessible tools, Acorn Seed Learning empowers participants to develop independence, purpose, and a lifelong love of learning.

Early Childhood Intervention

Early Childhood Intervention (ECI) is essential in supporting neurodivergent children by providing tailored strategies that help them develop foundational skills for lifelong learning and participation.

ECI focuses on:

  • Individualised support to address developmental delays or disabilities.
  • Family-centered approaches that empower caregivers to support their child’s growth.
  • Multisensory learning techniques to enhance engagement and skill-building.
  • Inclusive environments that encourage social interaction and communication.

By offering early, targeted intervention, children gain the tools they need to navigate their world with confidence.

What is DLD / dyslexia?

Specific Language Disorder is the new name for disorders such as Dyslexia. SLD is a learning disorder that affects reading, writing, and spelling skills.

How early should intervention begin?

Early intervention should begin as soon as developmental delays are noticed in young children (up to 7 years). Early intervention is considered vital for life long success.

How are personalised learning plans created?

Personalised learning plans are created through a detailed assessment of the individual's needs, goals, and learning style.

Who does ASL support?

ASL supports all children and teens. We work primarily with clients who have a diagnosis of ASD ADHD DLD and/or need Early Childhood Intervention. ASL welcomes private clients; plan and self managed NDIS clients.

Frequently Asked Questions

“Since starting at Acorn Seed Learning, my child has become so much more confident and organised—it’s been amazing to see the change in such a short time. I’ve also felt really supported as a parent. When I wasn’t sure how to approach things at school, Lisa gave me the tools and language I needed. At our parent-teacher meeting, I finally felt like I could ask the right questions—and I actually understood the answers.”
